For more than 25 years, CIB has been creating innovative and flexible solutions in the area of document lifecycle management with the aim of enabling companies to optimize and automate the administrative processes, thereby achieving a significant increase in efficiency within the company.

To meet the ever-growing demands of the market and the challenges of global digitization, CIB is investing in research and innovation.

The research project DeepER (Deep Learning Extended Range Character Recognition), funded by the German Ministry of Education, in which CIB cooperates with the Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (IAIS), began in early July 2016.

The goal is the development of an intelligent software solution for optical character recognition based on deep learning technologies.

As in other areas of science, such as speech recognition or image classification, the scientific approach of artificial intelligence is also to provide a breakthrough in character recognition.

According to experts, 60% of all scanned documents still have to be processed. This is an unacceptable result for many applications, which makes the automation of the downstream business processes more difficult. The aim of the research project is to improve the quality of scanned documents with this new OCR engine in such a way that the standard of a human interpretation attained and so that the expenditure of post-processing is drastically reduced.

CIB's existing product range will benefit directly from the research results so that CIB solutions such as doXisafe or doXiview become even more powerful and automated.

We would be happy to hear from companies and individuals who are already using or planning to implement some AI tools (combines related terms: machine learning, natural language processing, deep learning, predictive analytics) in their own solutions. We are eager to share experience and work together on interesting projects. CIB has created a dedicated team focused solely on things around AI.
